Tania Reese

This is a great start, Tania. Your team chose a great outfit and the accessories are all nicely added. I think your makeup stylist played it far too safely this round, however. It’s only barely verging on “exorbitant” – in fact, it’s leaning more towards “elegant fantasy”. I think that something bold and green around your eyes and cheeks could have really sold the whole “exorbitant” idea. I love the pose you chose and I love that you’re looking coyly off to the side. Normally I’m an eye contact fan, but this works. Here’s one other thing – this isn’t “waist up”. This is quite a bit lower, but that was really a minimal thing for me and didn’t effect your placement much.

That pose, that look, those curves - I love it! However, I think your team showed a little too much of your curves and didn't crop the photo enough for the requirements - make sure to cater to those little details. I think that your pose, while it worked, didn't work with your accessories. I can't really see the headpiece you have on the side of your head in detail, which I would have preferred to see. You and your team chose this very green theme and, even though last round was nature/natural, I think you could have played into that a little bit for this assignment. I'm a real big sucker for eye contact and make up in general and it's apparent that both are lacking this round. If you had given us eye contact and your make up team did something bigger and bolder with your make up as a whole, this picture really could have been exorbitant. There's a lot of potential here, but I'm seeing that it can be hard to open sometimes.

Amara, I love the accessories you have on and I adore the makeup. Unfortunately, that’s all that really pulls me in. Your team seemed to drop the ball on the whole “exorbitant” idea and chose some very unflattering shades that washed you out. Your porcelain skin needs some bold contrast in the background – and the dress. The style of the dress is STUNNING, but that pale gold washes you out AND honestly…I thought you were naked from the waist down at first. Finally, your team seemed to pick an outtake rather than an actual finished photo. You’re looking oddly off to the side and your pose is really rather boring. I am positive you had much better shots to choose from!

Your team put some accessories on you, they have you some good make up, but other than that, I don't feel like your team was really in it to win it this week. You my dear, are a paler model than some. Unfortunately in this round, you felt very washed out by that dress and by your background. I think that had your team chosen a different colored background (maybe one to subtly match the eyeshadow you have on) and picked a darker dress, it would have given you the opportunity to pop instead of fade. Also I'm not really sure if your team ended up picking the best pose that you did during your shoot. Hands in front of your waist, not looking at the camera - it feels more like an outtake to me than you were ready and posed. I think had your team picked a picture where you were bend or contorting yourself, that really would have stepped up this picture and given you more of a high fashion edge over some of your other competition.

I think your stylist had did an excellent job. Overall, you are dressed royally and very exorbitantly. Your makeup could have been bolder and a different color crown would have rocked – red perhaps? But overall, that part was great. The issue I have is with your pose. It is very bland and looks more like an outtake from the photoshoot rather than a finished product. You’re not making eye contact – and that can work if you’re looking more drastically to one side – but here you’re just looking oddly off-center. Your pose is quite boring too. Not sure how I feel about that background either…

Simple and elegant - I love it. While I wish a little more creativity came through from your team, sometimes it's good to play it safe. There's a good contrast between you and your background and that helps make you POP off the screen. Good choice there. Was your neckpiece edited on? Make sure your team does a better job finding fabrics that are of the same quality or take a little more time during post-production to make sure things match up a little better - the finer details are really going to help set you apart in this industry. I also would have loved for your team to pick a photo where you have more emotion with your face - maybe an evil smirk of a queen about to behead the next person who crosses her. Something slight that is really able to tell a story.

Victoria Venice

Beautiful, Victoria. I love the metallic idea and how you used some very stellar accessories in the best way. I’ve seen people use those finger things without utilizing them – you chose a great pose to show them off. I also like the wind-swept metal head piece. You are amazing here and your team did not let me down – but I will admit…coming from you, I almost expected MORE. I expected some really over-the-top craziness and this feels tame. It’s stunning – don’t get me wrong! I love it!

A beautiful job by your make up team this week - they really make you stand out and look very striking. I do wish that your hair team had done a little more, though. This photo is good, it's crisp, it's clear, it's pretty to look at - but it's lacking, in my opinion. It's lacking another big piece element that I think some hair adjustments could have done. You're staring right into our souls and I love it, you've got that make up on fleek, those accessories are great, and then your hair is just softly there, and I'm not quite sure what's on top of your head. I think doing a bigger and fuller hairstyle, maybe a half up half down kind of deal, really would have been beneficial to you in this round.

Can I just say – your stylist is ON POINT here. She really, REALLY went overboard with some VERY unique accessories…and I love it! You look like a Pagan Queen! I think the colors are fascinating – very unique! I think the background is just so-so, but you are styled fabulously. Here’s my complaint – the pose is just…blah. I understand you’re holding things in your hands – excellent – but your face is VERY blah and you’re looking oddly off-center. Direct eye contact in this photo would have been AMAZING…oh and if you had smirked? Yes!!!

Your stylist did an amazing job this round, really. You bring forward this high fashion death look, especially with that extravagant headpiece - I bet that must have weighed a ton! Normally I wouldn't support such a deadpan stare but with this photo, it feels less deadpan and more like you're staring into our souls, so give your team a pat on the back for that choice. My only question regards those lines on your face - were they supposed to be something? Seems like it could have been to sculpt out some unfinished skull make up or something. Otherwise I'm impressed - you did well and you and your team came up with a very individualized concept to set you apart.

Angela Marlow
by Nshipp
You look like a very elegant vampire here; beckoning someone to you with an innocent expression. That’s wonderful and all, but your team missed the point of this assignment, unfortunately. There’s nothing “exorbitant” or particularly high fashion about this photo. It’s pretty, it’s mysterious, and it’s nice, but it’s not what we were looking for. Oh – and your photographer photographed you far too low – this was waist-up!
|
I felt like your team missed the mark with this assignment this week. Other than your make up, nothing here is saying over the top fashion to me. I would have wanted to see headpieces or big necklaces or crazy outfits with some wacky but fashionable hair and I'm not really getting a lot of anything from this picture. I can tell that your make up team was in it for the win this week but I think they could have collaborated more to make a more cohesive look that was high fashion and pushed you over the edge. Even a better pose would have been of assistance to you, because here I feel like you're talking to your camera man as opposed to posing. Be cautious in future rounds and competitions of all the different ways something can be interpreted. Now this isn't a bad photo, not by far, it just wasn't appropriate for this assignment.

Emily Thomas

You look elegant here, Emily! I love the mix of elegant gown and fantasy wooden antlers/tree branches. I also really like your thoughtful pose. Unfortunately your team missed the mark for me in two areas – first, your team really should have given you a different background. That blinding white background is so bright that it almost hurts, but more importantly, your tree branches/antlers disappear into the white background. Second, while your team did well with creativity, this is only barely fitting the “exorbitant” requirement. It’s just not quite bold enough for me to give full credit for that. Oh, and one minor detail – this is hips up and it’s required to be waist up! Read requirements carefully!
|
This picture has a lot of potential but I think there were a lot of factors working against you. Your team seemed to disagree on one of the most important parts of a picture like this - what the central color should be and how to achieve it. Your background is white and your team chose white accessories that extend past your body. Then your editing team really brightened the picture up, making us lose most of the definition and impact of the accessories. I think that had your team had you dressed in all white and used that pretty blue of your dress as the background instead - wow. What an impact that would have made. The antlers? would have stood out on their own, as well as what's behind your neck. And plus with those beautiful bright blue eyes, you easily could have gone for a deer in the headlights look that would have really changed the impact of your photo. You and your team had a lot of potential with this photo but I think that these little disagreements added up and worked against you. However, you were heading right on track with the assignment and the goal of it, so kudos.

I like this – particularly the makeup and headpiece. Your lips are stunning! I’m not a huge fan of the wide-eyed stare or that background! Your team should think about complementary colors when deciding on a background. If you’re going with a purple outfit/makeup motif, think about something contrasting for the background. This is a lot of purple and the purples don’t even match so it clashes. Anyway, you too look very elegant here, but it’s only barely “exorbitant” for me. More intense makeup, a less distracting background, and more interesting pose would have sold this for me.
|
Right off the bat, I just want you and your team to know this is really pushing the boundaries on the color scheme - I think that had you chose a color complimentary to purple for the background or did a background that was significantly darker, that would have been helpful. This is just a lot of purple right now and that's something your team should always consider - when is it TOO much? Other than that, I really do like this picture. The pose has this level of sass and strength, the overall image screams royalty. I think your team definitely could have gone heavier on make up, maybe some white eyeliner to help your eyes pop, some stronger shadow, that kind of thing. Also your accessories are really what knocked you down for me this week - I want to see more. I want them bigger, weirder, whackier, and just more standout-ish. I see a lot of potential, here.

Haeju Sorenson
by Strawberrigurl
Ahh! You look fabulous, Haeju!! I think your team NAILED the “exorbitant” requirement and you chose an interesting pose to go along with it! You look like an underwater queen or sea witch! I love the colors here, the tone of the photo, your whole look, and everything! If I had to complain about something, it’d be your off-center stare. It’s not quite direct and is a bit off-putting. Your team also cropped this a bit low for the requirement, but dang! Nice job!

WOW. This photo is STRIKING. Your lighting team deserves a day off for that. The consistence of the blue tone in every piece of the picture is really amazing and a job well done. I think that during the shoot (all those lights? it's definitely hot and sweaty, we get that) the make up on your fingers got a little smudged and it doesn't look the best and since they're right in front of the camera, it draws my eye. Make sure you and your team are more cognizant of things like that next time. Speaking of the pose, I do wish you would have only had one hand on the face. I've been going back and forth on it for a while but I think that choosing a photo where your face is reacting and has emotion would have really taken this picture to the top.
